Association Membership and Volunteer Surveys

Thank you! A total of 16,604 members—including 338 volunteers— completed our Membership Survey last November. We have a very high level of confidence that this sample is reflective of the overall membership population.  Given the number of responses and our membership population, we have a margin of error of  +/- 0.76%. This is very good and should be expected given that our sample is so large out of the total population. The standard is +/- 3.1%, 19 times out of 20 (which is what we would have achieved had our sample only been roughly 2,340 respondents); because our sample is as large as it is, our confidence interval ends up being less than 1% - which is extremely accurate (or rather, represents a very small margin of error.)

This data will help keep our Association responsive and relevant to our members and to continue to improve our support and services to meet your needs.  The plan is to analyse the results from the Institute on Governance-- who independently conducted the surveys for us-- then brief Branch Presidents in the Spring, present the findings at the Annual Members Meeting in June and report back to all members in the summer edition of Sage.  Meanwhile, here are some interesting results. We asked you to identify your top three hobbies, and our survey said:

  • 62 % of our members identified reading

  • 53% of our members identified travel

  • 46% of our members identified exercise
