As part of our ongoing advocacy work for a National Seniors Strategy, Federal Retirees have called for the integration of home visits to seniors to improve care and reduce stress on our health care system.

Having funded 10 new community paramedics for three months to perform home flu-testing visits, the good work coming from the Champlain Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) in Renfrew County serves as an example of how effective and important such a program can be.  The program has kept seniors who think they may have the flu out of hospital waiting rooms – not only decreasing strain on the health care system, but also decreasing those seniors’ risk of contracting another illness while at the hospital. Combined with winter mobility challenges, this program is immensely valuable to local seniors.
