National Volunteer Week takes place from April 7 to 13, 2019.
National Volunteer Week is all about inspiring Canadians to engage in their communities and celebrating those who give generously of their time and experience to drive social change and support others.
Canada is home to some 12.7 million volunteers, who lead neighbourhood activities, teach children, coach sports teams, visit hospitals, plant trees, advocate for important causes and otherwise contribute meaningfully to their communities. We’re proud to say that more than 800 of those volunteers are part of the Federal Retirees volunteer network, an amazing team of individuals committed to making a difference and improving the financial security, health and well-being of our members and all Canadians.
The theme for National Volunteer Week 2019 is The Volunteer Factor – Lifting Communities, which couldn’t speak any more directly to our experience. We do our best to anticipate our members’ needs and advocate on their behalf, but it is our volunteers who are on the ground every day providing support to their branches, bringing member priorities to local MPs and engaging with federal employees and retirees one-on-one. We are consistently impressed and inspired by our volunteers, and it is their collective efforts that allow us to reach new heights as an association.
On behalf of the National Association of Federal Retirees and its members, we would like to extend our sincerest thanks to our volunteers; we hope you know how valued you are. Happy National Volunteer Week!
