Dedicated volunteer and advocate Larry Duffield has been appointed to the National Seniors Council, where he’ll help shape policies that support seniors’ well-being across Canada.
We are proud to share that longtime volunteer and advocate Larry Duffield has been appointed to the National Seniors Council (NSC) as of April 1. His appointment follows a rigorous 18-month selection process and marks the beginning of a three-year term. The NSC plays a crucial role in advising the Government of Canada on pressing issues related to seniors' health, well-being and quality of life.
The council engages with seniors, stakeholders and experts to ensure that federal policies reflect the evolving needs of older Canadians. Its work supports programs that enhance financial security, social inclusion and access to essential services — issues that align closely with our association’s mission to advocate for a secure and dignified retirement for all Canadians.
Duffield’s extensive background in seniors’ advocacy made him a strong candidate for this position. Since retiring in 2004, he has dedicated nearly 20 years to championing the rights and well-being of seniors. Duffield shared that he is thrilled to have been appointed and feels “this comes at a critical moment in Canada’s history.”
His motivation stems from his commitment to advocacy and his desire to bring a unique perspective to the council. “As a retired volunteer, non-academic and a Status Indian (a legal term under the Indian Act), I believe I can offer different insights to the NSC,” Duffield noted.
As a board member of Federal Retirees’ Windsor & Area Branch among other senior organizations, Duffield sees his appointment as an opportunity to amplify the voices of seniors at the national level: “I am excited to be joining the NSC and plan to do my best working on promoting seniors’ interests in Windsor and across Canada.”
We congratulate Larry on this significant achievement and look forward to the impact he will make through his role on the National Seniors Council.
