Meeting with John Brassard, MP, Terry Dowdall, MP and Doug Shipley, MP
Federal Retirees Huronia Branch representatives, Chris Auger, Branch President, and Leo Brooks, Branch Advocacy Director, met with John Brassard, MP for the Barrie-Innisfil riding, on Feb. 22, 2024. The branch representatives identified the four Association priorities, these being national seniors strategy, improved retirement income security, increased support for the well-being of veterans and their families, and pharmacare. Under the first priority, Chris Auger stressed that long-term care and housing is at a critical point in this country while Leo Brooks spoke about Huronia Branch support for the local initiative Seniors Housing Alliance: Simcoe County. Chris and Leo also stressed the importance of a national pharmacare plan. Mr. Brassard welcome the meeting, acknowledged the housing affordability crisis, identified the lack of dialogue between the stakeholders as a reason for issues with retirement income security, and expressed concern of the anticipated cost for a nation pharmacare program.
