Celebrating National Volunteer Week April 27-May 3, 2025: A letter from our president

April 25, 2025
Federal Retirees president, Roy Goodall.
During National Volunteer Week 2025, taking place from April 27 to May 3, we celebrate the passion, talent and energy of the people who make our work possible.

As National Volunteer Week approaches, I want to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation to the more than 900 volunteers who give their time, energy and expertise to support our association and our mission.

Volunteering is at the heart of our association — and I say that not only as president of the of the association and board chair but as a volunteer myself. Whether you’re serving on a branch board, organizing events, engaging with elected officials or helping members feel seen and heard, your work matters. You are helping us build a stronger, more connected and more compassionate community.

This year, National Volunteer Week coincides with an important moment for Canada. As the country goes to the polls on April 28, our association is calling on all federal parties to take meaningful steps toward building a future that supports and protects Canadians as they age. That includes action on retirement income security, reliable health care, safe long-term care and dedicated support for veterans.

Whether you’ve participated in outreach, shared our election priorities or simply spoken in your community about the issues that matter, you’re helping move the conversation forward.

To all our volunteers: thank you. You play an essential role in advancing our mission and protecting the interests of older Canadians. We are grateful for your time, your passion and your belief in the work we do together.

With deep appreciation,

Roy Goodall
President, National Association of Federal Retirees
