Group of businesspeople working as a team in an office.
Public Safety Canada is currently recruiting federal retirees at all levels.

Federal Retirees is sharing the following message on behalf of Public Safety Canada. For additional information about this opportunity, email donna.huen@ps-sp.gc.ca to connect with Donna Huen, manager of the National Surge Capacity Pilot Project.

Do you thrive in a fast-based operational environment?

Public Safety Canada manages emergencies by preparing and sharing information with senior officials, provincial and territorial representatives, and First Nations. Emergencies have become longer and more intense in recent years. We are recruiting federal retirees for a pilot project that will provide surge support during the national cyclical event season (primarily floods and forest fires) in 2025.

We are recruiting former public servants at all levels. If selected, casual contracts will be provided to ensure availability during the April – December period.

Training will be provided to all and, if further selected to provide surge support, additional role-specific training, job shadowing and mentoring will be provided.

Because of the uncertain nature of the cyclical event period, once a contract is in place does not guarantee that you will be selected to provide surge support. What we can guarantee is one week of training (part-time over 2 weeks) plus refresher sessions throughout the event period. Regional offices will have the option to select trained surge staff to support their event teams. They may require surge on a part-time or full-time basis.

If you are interested in contributing to Canada’s response to emergencies, and the terms of employment seem like a good fit for you in your retirement, please send your resume and a completed application form to:
