Quebec welcomes Joanne Granger as advocacy program officer

September 13, 2022
Welcome to our newest APO, Joanne Granger!
Joanne Granger, an experienced and active volunteer, is taking on the exciting role of advocacy program officer for Quebec.

Federal Retirees is pleased to welcome Joanne Granger as the new advocacy program officer (APO) for Quebec.

Granger, a member of the Montreal Branch, is looking forward to supporting advocacy initiatives in Quebec!

Granger holds a bachelor's degree in law from Laval University and a specialized graduate diploma from the University of Montreal. She was called to the bar in 1980. She then began her legal practice in private practice before joining the civil litigation ranks of the Department of Justice Canada in 1989 and later the Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC) in 1997. When she retired in May 2015, Granger was General Counsel with the PPSC.

In addition to her professional duties, Granger chaired two committees of the bar consecutively (first the Bar of Montreal and then the Bar of Quebec) whose main mission was the protection of the public. In recognition of her involvement, she received the Merit of the Bar of Montreal (renamed Pierre-Fournier Award) in 2007.

In addition, she was a lecturer at the University of Sherbrooke for graduate students in the financial crime program and has given numerous training sessions to police officers, judges of the Court of Quebec and her colleagues over the years. Granger travelled twice to Libreville in Gabon to give training to police officers and committing magistrates.

An activist at heart, Granger was also a regional union representative for the Association of Justice counsel for several years. Furthermore, she was part of the negotiating team that led to the signing of a new collective agreement in March 2013.

Active in her community since retiring, Granger has volunteered with various organizations, including as a member of the board of directors of a seniors’ community home. She also coordinated a local association in the borough where she lives, whose mission is to mobilize citizens and encourage their participation in democratic life.

During the last municipal election campaign of 2021, Granger acted as campaign director in her borough, which allowed her to familiarize herself with the inner workings of municipal politics.

Granger is a new grandmother and intends to spend plenty of quality time with her grandson. As an avid traveller, she also wants to continue her discovery of the world.

In her new role as APO, Granger will work closely with branches in Quebec and Reach 338 volunteers to make sure Federal Retirees’ priorities are heard and understood by government officials all across Quebec, and across Canada.

The more advocates we have taking part in Reach 338, the greater our impact will be. If you’re interested in joining this nationwide network of advocates, sign-up to join the Reach 338 network today!
